About Brownie

I am Brownie!  I love reading especially fictions and memoirs.  My background and professional careers reflects my interests in reading so let me tell you about myself.

I am a Black girl from a large city and grew up in 4-person household: mother, father, me, and my younger sister.  My mother is a computer science nerd and seamstress and my father was a mental health expert, professor, and basketball coach.  My formative years were spent excelling in school and sports.

I spent most of my 20s in careers centered around advancing heath outcomes.  I received a degree in Dietetics, worked as a nutritionist teaching Kindergartners through medical students healthy eating habits, lobbied at the state and local level for policies that would reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity especially in rural and/or minority communities.

Most recently, I received my MBA from a top business school and currently work with Fortune companies to advance their corporate goals.

I did not enjoy reading until college.  I attended a preparatory school for middle and high school and was forced to read really interesting yet complex books on a fast cadence that did not seem realistic nor enjoyable for me.

Through new found freedom and the privilege of choice that I now have as an adult, I stumbled upon books that motivate and inspire me.  I have read books that have made me downright angry and I've read that books that were just simply not very good.  I've even went back and reread some of the required reading from high school. :)

This blog will provide my thoughts on books that I've read.  I'll try to be fair in my review, but I also want to be transparent and honest with my thoughts.  I will never write about anything I did not read.  You'll see some of the reviews will be short and sweet.  Some of the reviews will be longer similar to a formal essay.

As this blog grows, I hope to highlight other formats of storytelling like podcasts, news articles, limited TV series, and an occasional music video.  I want to start a book club and have this blog provide a platform for up and coming writers.

I have tons of ideas, but if you want my hot take on something that interests you, just send me an email, tracy@bookwormbrownie.com!

xxxx,
Brownie
